Science Behind: Windows

Do you know that there are such things as energy efficient windows?

When it gets cold out, some people might tell you to cover your windows. They’re right! Heat escapes quickly out of thin layers of non-insulating materials such as glass. The more heat escaping your house, the colder your house can get.

Some energy efficient window designs can range. One design involves the use of 3 layers of windows, with air pockets between, that keeps the heat trapped easier. Another design involves treating the glass with ultra-thin metallic coating that reflects heat back into the house. With the layer being thinner than a piece of hair, it is a great option.

Why is it called energy efficient? Well, the less heat that escapes your house the less heat you will need to generate through an HVAC system in your homes, and the less energy you will use up.

Stay warm!
