Science Behind: Thermometers

If you have a bulb thermometer in your house, the way it measures temperature is based off of a liquid.

The volume of a liquid changes based on the temperature around it. When it is cold liquids contract, taking up less volume. When it’s hot, liquid expands, taking up more volume. Well, to bolden this idea the strip of glass on the thermometer is very narrow, making those slight changes in temperature easier to identify.
