Science Behind: Microwaves
Have you ever used a microwave and wondered how it all works?
Well, when you put that food in the microwave, close the doors, set the timer, and click start, high frequency micro-waves start to hit the food. But, what are they really doing? Using dielectric heating, a high frequency alternating electric field, it moves the water molecules inside of the food. When those water molecules begin moving, they rub against each other, producing heat due to the friction between the molecules.
You may have heard microwaves give you cancer, but the truth is (unless your microwave is decades old), the metal lining inside the microwaves reflects the waves well and won’t penetrate the microwave.
So, use that microwave all you want, it’s really just water.
