Science Behind: Fabrics

The fabrics that make up your clothes are actually chemistry! There are different types of fibers, but each fiber is fundamentally made up of polymers, which are a string of very long molecules. There are materials such as natural fabrics, which are made up of cotton, burlap, silk, and wool.

There are also materials called synthetic fabrics, which are just polymers that are not naturally made, formed into fibers. These are invented using a process called chemical synthesis, as these materials started out as naturally made.
